1. QUALITY COACHING
All YDP coaches are educated and immersed in the Team Wellington playing philosophy, and are NZ Football-qualified. Players will receive one consistent coaching message from their club coach, the YDP and FTC (if applicable).
2. TECHNICAL TRAINING
In addition to team training, players receive individual and positional specific training. This training is designed to enhance individual ball mastery and technique in line with Team Wellington playing model.
YDP players not only learn their roles and responsibilities on the pitch, but also how to grow, think and live like a footballer off the pitch. Team Wellington's top players and guest speakers share their experiences.
4. INDIVIDUAL REPORTING
At the end of Terms 4 and 1, each player receives an in-depth report on their individual football achievements and progress (Tech-Tac-Phys-Social) in line with our playing model.
Players play their best football when they are well-rested and injury free. International research backs the 'quality-not-quantity' approach to training followed by large successful international clubs like Barcelona. We strongly recommend players have no more than 4-6 contacts (or football sessions) per week in season.
This measured approach supports our young players in their busy lives and ensures they still have time available for other sports, family, relaxation, fun and homework!
Because it is so important that players are not over-loaded, we strongly recommend players and parents carefully consider participation in any additional football activities or programmes, with the exception of FTC. Coaches will be happy to discuss balancing player loads with players and their families.
As an affiliated club we support the Capital Football FTC programme. The experience of training with other players across Wellington and representing our region at tournaments is great for player development.
Under the directorship of Team Wellington Head Coach, José Figueira, and run by Team Wellington coaching staff, the Team Wellington Youth Development Programme (YDP) offers players a complete, personalised academy training experience, including:
- two training sessions per week in Terms 1 and 4
- targeted, player-based skills development
- all NZF-qualified coaches
- a more diverse curriculum
- seasonal reporting on progress
1. SKILL LEVEL
The YDP is for the more committed player who is serious about improving their skills and keen to invest time in their football development. To that end, the YDP suits players with advanced or accelerated skills development, who also demonstrate the right attitude, focus and aptitude for improvement.
Players must be available to commit to the YDP which includes, as a minimum, two training sessions per week. Players are required to attend both weekly YDP sessions, along with any mentoring session (on nutrition, injury prevention, football experiences, etc.). There will also be planned preseason games. Attendance, like player conduct, is monitored and reported on.
Fees are due at the beginning of each term. A discount is applied if you sign up for both Term 4 2018 and Term 1 2019 at the same time.
There is an additional, compulsory gear cost of $80 for YDP jersey, shorts and socks. The $70 YDP jacket is optional.
For information about fees, please email Rosie at email@example.com.
