Reigning champions Team Wellington have arrived in New Caledonia in good spirit and full of excitement ahead of  Sunday’s OFC Champions League semi-final clash against Hienghene Sport.

After landing at Noumea’s la Tontuata  airport, Jose Figueira’s charges from the New Zealand capital have appeared relaxed but also purposeful and determined to tackle the task in front of them.

The Team Wellington coach insists it was crucial for his side to arrive well before kick-off in order to acclimatise to the locals conditions.

Team Wellington enjoyed the morning off from their football commitments following their win over Kiwi FC to spend some time in the community at Central School, Port Vila on Wednesday.

On arrival, the Wellington side was greeted by the school’s Deputy Principal who introduced the team to two very excited classrooms that would have a slightly different PE class that day.

Team Wellington created OFC Champions League history in the modern era with a 13 -nil win, the largest winning margin ever, over Kiwi FC in Game 2 of the Group Stages at Korman Stadium in Port Vila on Tuesday afternoon.  

While this was the first encounter where these two teams have faced each other, Team Wellington went in to the match with a clear game plan and all respect for their opponents.

Drawn into Group C, alongside Vanuatu’s National Super League grand final champions Erakor Golden Star, Samoa National League champions and Qualifying tournament runners-up Kiwi FC, Team Wellington will kick of their title defence with Saturday’s group opener against Fiji Premier League runners-up Ba FC at Port Vila’s Korman Stadium.
