Team Wellington are pleased to announce they have secured club centurion Justin Gulley and local midfielder, Alex Palezevic ahead of the 2019/20 ISPS Handa Premiership.
Head Coach Scott Hales, was thrilled to re-sign the two players with both playing a crucial role in his plan for the season ahead.
Having made 104 appearances for the club, the opportunity to have Gulley back in the ranks was one that excited Hales.
“Having Justin back for another season is fantastic for the club.
“He’s every coach’s dream to work with, his commitment and drive for success is infectious,” Hales said.
“Gulley is a standout player in New Zealand football and it’s great to have someone of his calibre involved with the team both on and off the pitch.”
For the 26-year old defender, coming back to the club that he’s led in previous seasons was an opportunity he was only too willing to take up.
“Last season saw many ups and downs for the both the club and me personally in the game, and it’s only fuelled a greater desire to work hard and push for titles.
“This season there have been a few changes with new players and new staff but the team culture and environment we have created remains the same so I’m confident we can go on to achieve something special here with the club,” Gulley said.
Although Palezevic has only spent one season with Team Wellington, Hales sees promise in the young midfielder and his confident he will deliver this year.
“We’ve seen AP in the National League for a number of years now and as captain of Wellington Olympic, to have another local player in the squad is great for football in our region,” said Hales.
“AP is a versatile player who can be used in a number of different roles so he’s a real positive signing for the club.
“He’s technically proficient but his attitude on and off the pitch is what makes him such a great player.
The 22-year-old said he was excited by the opportunity to re-sign with the club.
“Last season was really enjoyable for me having the opportunity to be involved at the FIFA Club World Cup, play alongside some great players and work with all of the staff.
“We’re an amateur club with a professional mindset so I’m really looking forward starting up again.
“It’s great to have Scott as Head Coach this year and I think his partnership with Jamie will really push all of us players, “Palezevic said having worked with both coaches before.
Team Wellington commence pre-season in the coming weeks with Gulley and Palezevic joining the others confirmed in the squad.
