Team Wellington ready to take on Erakor Golden Star

After a convincing win in game two, Team Wellington are full of confidence but weary of their third and final match in the group stages as they face the host side in Erakor Golden Star on their home turf on Friday evening.

It is expected to see a full crowd at Korman Stadium as the passionate fans flock to support their local side, giving Erakor that home advantage edge.

Head Coach Jose Figueira is under no illusion that this match will be challenging but is looking forward to the opportunity for the Wellington side to show their style and personality out on the field.

“We’re looking forward to being tested against a team that will be hungry so no doubt it will be a great occasion.”

“We’re expecting them to come out strong, it’s clear what they need to do qualify and we’ve seen in both of the games they’ve played that they’ve tried to be on the front foot and really take it to the opposition so we’re not expecting them to change too much from that respect.”

While Team Wellington have been fortunate enough to play in some great stadiums, player Nathanael Hailemariam is excited at the prospect of playing in front of hundreds of locals on Friday evening.

“Playing in the islands in front of big crowds is something special.”

“It does kind of change the feels a little bit compared to playing back at home but the boys are used to being involved in previous OFC Champions League campaigns so we know what we need to do, we’ve got experienced players that have experienced that before so we just need to go out and get the win.”

Erakor Golden Star will be bringing everything to this final match of the group stages as they look to secure their spot and Team Wellington are ready for anything that will be thrown their way.

“Just like any other Island team, they will come out firing so we just need to keep our discipline both offensively and defensively and just go out there and do our thing,” Hailemariam said.

“We believe in the tactics that we’ve been working on and all we need to do is go out and implement it tomorrow night.”
