Team Wellington secure another local talent ahead of new season

Team Wellington are pleased to announce the signing of 19-year old defender, Josh Rogerson.

The young centre-back was part of the 2019 Central League side with Western Suburbs who claimed the title in August of this year.

The Wellington born talent has also represented his country at age group level making his international debut for the New Zealand U-17 team in February 2017.

Head Coach, Scott Hales, has been open about his intent to develop and work with local players as the club looks to retain the best talent in the region and Rogerson is no different.

“Josh is an exciting new Team Wellington prospect.

“He’s had a superb season with Western Suburbs over the winter and while he is still learning the game at this level, he’s determined, focused and is only going to grow more as the weeks go by,” Hales said.

“For me, it’s about having the ball more than our opposition and Josh is the perfect player to see that come to life.

“He’s a talented ball playing centre-back with a great sense of danger and although he’s still young, he is extremely mature on the pitch and really adds something to the squad.”

Rogerson is keen to prove he can establish himself in Hale’s setup as he plans to fight for a place in the starting XI ahead of the new campaign.

“The club have been very successful in the ISPS Handa Premiership and the goal this year is the same.

“We want to win as many games as we can and ultimately lift the Premiership trophy in the final,” Rogerson said.

“While it’s a new set up for me with a new Head Coach and new teammates, the way Scott wants the team to play and the direction the team wants to go this season is very positive.

“I’m looking forward to the season getting underway.”

Rogerson has joined his teammates in pre-season training ahead of the 2019/20 ISPS Handa Premiership season.
