Team Wellington is pleased to announce the re-signing of goalkeeper Scott Basalaj for the 2016-2017 Stirling Sports Premiership.
Local lad Basalaj returned to Team Wellington last season after a two-year stint playing in the Scottish Premier League. The former youth international made his debut for Team Wellington in 2011 playing two seasons before being picked up by the Glasgow side Partick Thistle FC. He was instrumental in goal last season as Team Wellington claimed their first title and continued that form over to the winter season in helping Wellington Olympic to win the Central League.
Basalaj is excited about the opportunity to be back with his hometown franchise for another season.
“It’s a huge boost having the majority of last season’s players back as I think we can build on what we accomplished last season. It's going to be great to play as the defending champions as we will be the team to beat every week. We have a really good team spirit not only from last season but from playing with and against each other through the winter season. That has kept us close on and off the pitch.”
Exodus Team Wellington coach Jose Figueira is pleased with Scott resigning.
“I am delighted to welcome Scott back. He had an excellent season last year and his presence and consistency between the sticks were just a couple reasons behind the team’s defensive solidity.”
