Team Wellington came from a goal down at half time to earn a 4-1 ASB Premiership victory over Southern United at David Farrington Park on Sunday.
Seamus Ryder put the visitors head in last minute of first half, heading home a Harley Rodeka cross at the back post.
But the hosts pulled level soon after the restart, Chris Bale’s stunning 20-yard free kick getting his side back to 1-1 five minutes into the second spell.
Half an hour came and went without further addition to the score until Bale again stung Southern with a free kick, this time goalkeeper Tom Batty couldn’t hold it and Ben Harris was on hand to nod home for 2-1 with 10 minutes to go.
Five minutes later Harris grabbed his second of the day, curling his effort beyond Batty and Anthony Hobbs rubbed salt in Southern wounds in the third minute of stoppage time, tapping home at the back post after good lead up work from Andy Bevin.
The result lifts the Oceania Champions League runners-up into the top three, two points behind leaders Hawke’s Bay United. Southern sit in seventh place, ahead of bottom side Waitakere United on goal difference.
