He carried that form over to Napier City Rovers helping them write new records on their way to the Central league title. Having proven his ability at the top levels of the New Zealand game Halpin cited his desire to win as a motivating factor for linking with Team Wellington, “I signed because I want to win the league and the OCL this year. When Matt Calcott outlined the team he was assembling I instantly recognized the strength and quality of squad. I am looking forward to linking up with a few of my former teammates but also working alongside some new faces. I enjoyed my football with United and Rovers over the past 12 months and it was great to lift a trophy, but I am looking forward to challenge of the new Premiership season and hope I can add some more silverware.”

Team Wellington coach Matt Calcott was full of praise for his latest recruit, “Saul was an unknown quantity heading into last summer but his performances for both Hawkes Bay and Napier City Rovers were top drawer. I think I would be right in saying he was one of the top players in the Central league this season. It’s great to be able to bring him into the squad and I’m sure his ability and versatility and is going to be very advantageous to our side as the season progresses.”
