Exodus Team Wellington is pleased to announce the re-signing of Luis Corrales for the 2015-2016 ASB Premiership Season.
The pocket dynamo returns to Team Wellington after a series of strong performances in last season’s ASB Premiership and played a pivotal role in the sides successful run to the 2015 Oceania Champions League final.
After beginning his career at AD Ramonense in Costa Rica, Corrales travelled to New Zealand in 2007 to play for Team Wellington. After three seasons in the capital, including winning the 2008/2009 Golden Boot, he signed for Auckland City, winning two Oceania Club Championships in
2011 and 2012 before returning to Team Wellington in 2013.
After turning out for club side Wellington Olympic over the winter Corrales contemplated taking the summer off but with the prospect of Team Wellington again competing for a title he felt compelled to return, “I owe Team Wellington a lot as they were the first franchise to give me an opportunity at this level and enjoy working with the staff and the culture that they are developing. I had given thought to not playing this season but I decided to go again. From a team perspective, it is about winning the ASB Premiership, then working towards the O-League. I didn’t sign to just pass time or have a game here and there my goals are to win; I have never been one to not play to win every game I’m involved in.”
Team Wellington coach Matt Calcott was enthusiastic about Corrales returning,
“It’s great to have Luis back in the Team Wellington setup, he’s seasoned pro who brings a lot to the team in terms of his experience, energy and skillset. He was a great attacking option for us during the ASB Premiership and proved his class with some impressive performances at the O-league. I can see how determined he is to lift a trophy this season and I am sure his drive will rub off on the rest of the side.”
